A&B ‘BEST IN BUSINESS’ AT PBN’S INAUGURAL BUSINESS AWARD PROGRAM

HONOLULU -- At the inaugural Business Leadership Hawaii Awards program held in Honolulu last night, Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. was recognized as the winner in the “Best in Business: Over $10 million” category. Initiated by the weekly business publication, Pacific Business News, the award placed A&B as first amongst five finalists (and from an unknown number of nominees) in that category. Accepting the award on behalf of A&B was Allen Doane, A&B’s President and CEO, at an event that was attended by more than 700 members of the business community, including Governor-elect Linda Lingle.

“This award belongs to each of A&B’s 2089 employees for their contributions not only to excellence in their daily work, but for their commitment to their professions and their communities,” said Doane. “This is an honor not only for our current employees, but also for the many generations of hardworking individuals who have done so much to move this company into its second century. Our thanks go to those who supported our nomination, to PBN and to the people of Hawaii for all of their support over the years.”

In his letter of recommendation, Hawaii real estate developer Duncan MacNaughton said, “Among the corporations doing business in Hawaii today, A&B is in rare company. Well into its second century of business operations, A&B retains the highest reputation for integrity and corporate citizenship, with its employees continually assuming leadership roles in our community while representing an employer they clearly respect.”

Similarly, Aloha United Way 2002 Campaign Leaders Carol and Mike May praised A&B and its employees “…who have been an integral part of the support system for health and human services, education, the environment and the arts in Hawaii…caring for the community is a part of their culture and team spirit….A&B’s commitment to each community in which it does business has been consistent and significant.”

Doane added, “My personal congratulations to each of our employees – and thank you for all your efforts that made this award a reality.”
